exhaust fans
Today i want to explain how to install a combination exhaust heat light fan in the restroom.First check the attic to see if you have enough room to install the fan.I try to mount the fan next to stud so that i can screw it to it.Once you have measured and decided where you are going to mount it hold the fan to the ceiling and trace around the fan to mark your hole. Then with a sheetrock knife follow your template as you cut your hole.Once your hole is cut you should be able to grab you wires down from the attic and hook them to your fan.You will have three switchlegs light, heat, fan(if you have not ran your wires dont worry i explain that i my next post).Set your fan to your hole to make sure you do not have to do any more trimming. If it fits ,slide your wires into the opening on the top of the fan.The turn the fan over and hook up your wires then plug them in to the correct outlets. After this is done install the feet that came with the fan then you are ready to position it through the hole. When you have it where you want it zap a couple of screws into the side of it to secure it in place. The last step is going into the attic to zap screw the feet down.I hope this helps you out and as always if you have any questions give me a call 361 433-6039.

Breakers
Today i would like to talk about replacing a breaker. If you do have a bad breaker(one that wont reset or is not getting voltage).First turn off your main breaker .Then turn off the breaker you want to replace.Remove your wire then put pressure on the breker to the off position .If it is in tight you may have to tap the breaker on the hande with a screw driver.Once you have the old breaker out then the new breaker should just push in.
(CAUTION)
Do not put in a bigger breaker than is aleady there.I hope this helps you out,and as always giveme a call if you have any questions John (361 433-6039)Tuesday, January 31, 2012

Resessed lighting
Resessed lighting is popular and easy to put in.The first thing you want to do is check your attic space to see if you have enough room to install them. You will need 8" to 12"(check your can").The light comes with a cut out so that when you make your hole you have a guide. When you have your hole cut connect your wires to your light the fit your light through your hole. There are clips on the side of the can they need to be pushd up to lock them in place. To put on your trim hook the two springs to the inside of the can. Thanks for looking at my blog and if you have any questions give me a call 361 433-6039.

lighting
i hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday. We will be closed the friday before christmas and the monday after. Now for the electrical tip ,When hanging a pendent fixture that is one with a chain holding it.The important thing to look for is that when you finish the chain is holding the fixture and not the cord. Here is what i do i first measure the how much chain i will need.I do this by deciding how low i want the fixture to hang from the floor.Measure your chain and your fixture for total. Then cut your chain and your cord.Leve a little extra on your cord.Thene what i do is put eveything together on the ground. My last step is screwing the metal bracket to the box.
I hope this helps you out and as always if you have any questions give me a call at 361 433-6039

breakers
I have recieved a few calls asking what it is we do.So i would like to list a few of the services we provide;electrical trouble shooting, light install, new plugs, electrical services(meter can and panels),220 plugs and ceiling fan install. Now that i got that out of the way here is an electrical tip,if you have a tripped breaker turn the breaker handle all the way off and then click it to the on position. If it is tripping every time and will not reset it needs to be trouble shot by an electrician.Thank you for looking at my blog and give me a call 361 433-6039 if you have any questions.

electrical winter tips
Now that it is getting to be winter we will all be turning on our heaters to keep the chill out.I would like to offer you a few tips that i hope will help you out.First if you are using a space heater keep blankets and sheets away.It would be a good idea to keep the heater at least four feet from where you are sleeping.Another thing to watch for is where the heater plugs into the wall .If the plug in the wall is old or worn out you may not be getting a good connection, which may cause the cord plug to become very hot.If you touch the cord and it is very hot , unplug the heater and get qualified electrician to check it out.Do not use gas or electric cook stoves for heating.Make sure if you are using space heaters ,they are a newer model with safety features installed.I hope this helps you out and as always if you have any questions give me a call 361 433-6039.Thanks for looking at my blog.

photocells
Photocells are used for turning lights on and off. They can be used with a time clock but that is mostly done in commercial applications. The average home owner uses them for security such as lighting up a porch or back yard. Some lighting comes with the photocell already in the light thse are an easy hook up ,just add 120 volts and the light should come on when it gets dark (some require some ajustment). If you have ligts already installed and want to add a photo cell. All you have to do is find where power is being fed to the light and break the switch here. You can feed a row of lights as long as they do not exceed the wattage of the photo cell. There is a black, red and white wire on the photocell. The black goes to the line or (incoming voltage) the red is the load or (votage going out to light)the white wire ties all the nuetrals together. The red wire is only hot when it is dark or the eye is covered.I hope this helps you out ,as always if you have any questions give me a call 361 433-6039.You can click on 2011 below to see pictures of jobs and other helpful hints and videos that i have posted.

ceiling fans
I know summer is over, but here is a good tip for putting up your ceiling fan ,that i think is worth talking about.Instead of putting the fan together in the air and fighting the screw holes, put it together on the ground. This saves time and headaches.I get the box it came in and flip it over and put the motor on top of the box. Then i put the blades together and install them on the fan. After that i put the light fixture on.When i have it all together,i flip it over get on my ladder and hang it up.After this i all most done, except for wiring it up.I hope this tip saves you some time.As always if you have any questions give me a call at 361 433-6039.Thanks for looking at my blog.

coustmer calls
Ihave not posted any videos lately but i will on my next post.Today i want to clear up some confusion about breakers. If you have a tripping breaker, putting in a bigger breaker will not solve your problem it will only make it worse .The thing to do is get the amp draw off of the circuit. This in most cases is an ac which will draw a good amount of current. The best fix here is to put the ac in its own BREAKER .This is a simple fix but an effective one.I hope this helps you out some. Thanks for reading my blog and call me if you have any questiones.John 361 433-6039

money saving tips
Outside plugs are controlled by gfis this is a ground fault interupter.if they are not working the easiest thing to do is go arounf the house and push in the button on these plugs.that is an easy fix and usally the right one.Another call i get is that someone has taken out a switch and it has three wires and they can not figure which one goes where. Here is the solution, you have what is called a three way switch. There are two travellers and one hot or switch leg which go on the black screw. An easy way to tell this is the one that goes on the black screw is a two wire with a ground .Three are several videos explaing this, some i have posted on my blog.Remember always turn off the electrity before working on anything electrical. As always if you have any questions give me a call 361 433-6039.Thank you for looking at my blog.
